SMART Papers Expands Capacity, Product Offering Following Acquisition of Fraser Papers Midwest US Operations
Walden-Mott Corp.  4/01/2005
Hamilton, Ohio, SMART Papers, LLC recently completed its acquisition of Fraser Papers' Midwest U.S. operations including a pulp and papermaking center in northern Wisconsin and a 470,000-square foot high-cube converting and distribution center in West Chicago, IL.

The acquisition brings to 14 the number of premium coated, uncoated and commercial printing paper brands under the SMART Papers umbrella and more than doubles the company’s papermaking capacity.

Included with the acquisition are three paper machines, a pulp and de-inking facility and the text, cover and commercial printing paper product brands produced at the Park Falls, Wisconsin, facility. Registered trademark brands include Torchglow, Glacier, Brights, Synergy, Passport, Genesis, Pegasus, Outback and Magna Carta.

They join the SMART Papers brands including Kromekote, Knightkote Matte, Carnival, Benefit and SMART Digital.

SMART Papers now has seven paper machines in two states and two large Midwest distribution centers allowing SMART to provide overnight delivery to 80% of the North American market.

The pulpmaking and pulp de-inking facilities greatly expands SMART Papers’ production of high quality environmentally friendly printing papers, including papers with up to 100% post-consumer waste content.

"With this acquisition we will have an expanded and significant market position in the premium specialty segment of the North American printing paper industry," said SMART Papers CEO and President Tim Needham.
